Description
The Tree of Life youth initiative seeks to enable its participants to contribute to the betterment of society and to take charge of their own personal growth. This is accomplished through building capabilities for service through the institute process—capabilities associated with teaching spiritual and moral education for children and animating groups which help junior youth navigate through a crucial stage in their lives and to become empowered to direct their energies toward the advancement of civilization. Additionally, an opportunity will be provided for some participants to become trained as tutors of study circles that enable people to explore the application of the teachings.
The initiative attempts to build “an environment conducive to the spiritual empowerment of individuals, who will come to see themselves as active agents of their own learning, as protagonists of a constant effort to apply knowledge to effect individual and collective transformation.”1 The participants will learn to rely heavily on “the dynamics of prayer, the inspiration and education derived from regular reading and study of the Holy Texts,”2 and gain insights into the social forces shaping society in order to increase their capacity to participate in the process of community building. Tree of Life also gives the participants the opportunity to gather together with their peers in an intensely spiritual and uplifting atmosphere.
